At the end of the 18th and especially in the 19th century, wealthy merchant families trading in Europe and the Orient, with understandable ambition, decided to demonstrate their wealth and economic opportunities through their large luxurious houses. Bulgarian craftsmen, skilled architects, builders, masons, carpenters, carvers and painters have combined their skills, which proved to be extremely useful for the flourishing of construction art in Plovdiv during the Renaissance.
