“Hisar Kapiya” is one of the most interesting and important sites that has survived since the medieval period of Plovdiv. Its name, translated from Turkish language, literally means a “fortress gate”. It is believed that “Hisar Kapiya” was one of the three main entrances of the early Roman town. During the centuries, the whole complex went through a lot of reconstructions. The current outlook of the gate merges several epochs.
