Dzhumaya Mosque is the most important Muslim temple in Plovdiv. It is considered that it was built on the place of the old local Cathedral church “St. Petka Tyrnovska”, which was destroyed after the Ottoman conquest of the town. The initial mosque was built during the rule of Sultan Murad I in the 14th century, but later during the rule of Sultan Murad II in the 15th century it was destroyed and the current one was built.
