It is supposed that the first temple at this place was built at the end of the 16th, beginning of the 17th century and it was also dedicated to the “Holy Sunday”. Because the Christians were facing a lot of restrictions during Ottoman rule, the church was relatively small and insignificant. In 1829 the local businessman Valko Chalakov managed to receive a sultan`s “firman”, which allowed the reconstruction of the temples “Holy Sunday” and “St. St. Konstantin and Elena”.
