The church “St. Petka Samardzhiyska” is a very old Roman tomb (crypt) from the 4th century, which means that there was a previous ceremonial building and in the 11th century the present-day temple was constructed.  The oldest preserved murals are from the 14th century. In architectural terms, the church “St. Petka Samardzhiyska” is a small one-nave construction, partially dug into the ground.
