On 22 September 1921 during the day, the patriarch of Bulgarian literature suffered a heart attack and died. After almost a week, on 28 September, Vazov was buried behind the “St. Sophia” church. At his request, a monolithic stone block was erected instead of a monument – Vitosha boulder.
